An Offbeat Outlook to Conquering Your Emotional Roller Coaster!

One day you're feeling on top of the world, only to wake up the next morning feeling kind of down? I'm not talking about bipolar disorder here – just those emotional fluctuations where some mornings you wake up a bit blue and it takes effort to get back to feeling yourself, while other days you're bouncing out of bed ready to take on the world.

This was my reality for 2-3 years. I felt like an emotional yo-yo. Some mornings I'd wake up feeling great, others I'd wake up feeling so low that it took intentionality and focused energy just to get back to my baseline. I often chucked it to the thought it was my hormones or whatever was happening in my life that was causing these emotional yo-yos.

Everything changed when I sat down with an incredible empowerment coach, Anna Mosley, who dropped some serious wisdom on me.

Her take? These mood swings might be because of your self-esteem.

Whether triggered by external factors like business stress or employee issues, or something deeper within, the root cause was a fragile self-esteem.

Here's the game-changing prescription Anna Mosley gave me to better regulate both self-esteem and mood:

Every night before bed (timing is crucial – it maximizes those alpha and theta brain waves), yourself 2 questions:

  • "What did I do well today?" → And more importantly, what does this say about me? (I AM format)

    • Example: "I took time to check in with an employee who seemed overwhelmed, and they opened up about what was stressing them." --> What this says about me: "I AM creating a supportive environment.

  • "What did I progress in today?" → And what does this reveal about me? (I AM Format)

    • Example: "I started a new pricing strategy and analyzed initial customer responses." --> What this reveals about me: "I AM willing to experiment and adapt to optimize my business."

Make sure to come up with at least 3 answers - and write them down!

Now, here's what blew my mind – when she told me, you would see changes in just 2-3 weeks. I was skeptical.

But her explanation rocked my world:

your self-esteem lives in your short-term memory, not your long-term memory. It only feels permanent because we keep choosing the same patterns. But since it's short-term, we can rewire it pretty quickly by choosing different thoughts.

So I strongly encourage you and your team to do this. Because once everyone has a strong self-esteem everyone will be operating at higher level within your business which brings you one step closer to creating ridiculously loyal customers.

Full transparency, I'm on day 10 of this practice as I write this piece, and I'm already seeing shifts in my mindset. Want to follow my journey?
